The Gabriola Recreation Society is the booking agent for the fields and courts owned by the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) – the fields, ball diamonds, and gravel pitch at Rollo McClay Community Park and the Sports Court and Tennis Courts at Huxley Community Park.

Current Field Status

Field status is determined by taking into account the safety and playability of the field, the weather forecast, excessive wear and tear, and potential for damage due to field conditions. User groups should cancel their booking when standing water, frost or snow is on the field and/or considerable wear is occurring resulting in muddy conditions or areas stripped clean of grass. Signage may or may not be present to indicate facility status, please check this page for updates.

Facilities Schedule

This calendar shows regular users of the following RDN managed facilities: Huxley Tennis Courts, Huxley Sport Court, Rollo McClay Community Park and Fields. You may request a booking by using the form below.

Booking a Facility

Before requesting a booking refer to the Field and Court Users Handbook – Gabriola (2 page PDF).

To request a booking please submit the form below. GRS staff will respond within 48 hours. Please view the calendar (above) to check for current availability before submitting your request.

For casual use of the RDN facilities at Huxley Park and Rollo McClay Community parks, a booking is not required. Outside of stated scheduled times, facilities are first come, first served. Maximum playing time when other people are waiting – 30 min. Bookings can be made for large special events such as tournaments, ongoing large user groups, team practices, and recreation programs. Bookings at the Rollo McClay Park picnic shelter do not constitute exclusive use of the park facilities. A special use permit may be requested through the RDN once the booking is approved by GRS.
