Ages 13+
Join the Gabriola Power and Sail Squadron for a Maritime Radio – VHF Restricted Operator Certification education and certification seminar. Learn to use a VHF radio to communicate while on the water. Whether you are in a kayak or a large yacht, the Roc-M certification is mandatory for all persons operating a VHF radio on board a pleasure craft in Canada. This study session will cover all the material you’ll need to know to pass the exam that is administered at the end of the class time. Participants who wish to write the exam should ensure they have a working knowledge of the phonetic alphabet. A course workbook, which serves as a great reference manual, is available for purchase from the instructor. Persons who have their Roc-M are welcome to attend this study session at no charge to review the material and update their knowledge, especially of DSC (digital selective calling).
