Grants in Aid

Local, non-profit groups are invited to submit grant applications for projects providing a recreational service to the community. Grants are for specific projects, special events, start-up costs, or recreation related equipment; not wages, ongoing programs or previously funded items. All community non-profits are invited to apply each grant period, even if you have been awarded a Grant in Aid in the past. New projects and new organizations are strongly encouraged as previously funded projects and ongoing programs are not eligible.

Grant in Aid

Section A – Background Information

The Gabriola Recreation Society considers applications for grants-in-aid twice each year. Applications must be received by 3:00 pm on the closing date posted on the Society’s website.

Grant applications are only considered from organizations on Gabriola providing Recreational based events and programs.

Applicants will be informed within two working days of the Board’s decision. Successful applicants will be reimbursed for the grant amount, on submission of evidence of expenditure, for the event or program, if they submit receipts within 6 months of being awarded the grant.

Section B – Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for grant funding the applicant must answer yes to the questions below.

Is your organization a bona fide organization operating primarily for the benefit of Gabriola residents.(Required)

Does your organization have a bank account in the name of the organization that is making the grant application.(Required)

Is your organization a not-for-profit or donate any profits to a community venture deemed worthy by the Gabriola Recreation Society.(Required)

Is your organization focused on a recreational based event or program on Gabriola.(Required)

The money granted by the Gabriola Recreation Society must be used for a specific project and cannot be used for an organization’s ongoing activities or for payment of salaries for on-going employees (this does not include honorariums). Start-up costs are eligible for support.(Required)
